Buying a pre-owned vehicle

I've been an automotive dealer for 0ver 15 years, and I find it hard to believe the things I see going on in the industry. It appears to me that the chief goal of the business is to make money in any way possible. I believe in the free enterprise system, but I think there should be self-imposed limits to the methods used to "sell" vehicles. Most people could save money and/or get full value for dollars spent, when purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, by following just a few simple steps! What are these steps? It's actually not that complicated.

1. Don't ever fall in love with a certain vehicle

2. Always verify what you've been told by someone at the dealership.

3. Get it in writing

4. Get it inspected, or, find out how to do it yourself

5. Use one of the reporting services

6. Read all paperwork very carefully

7. Use one of the services that shows comparable prices

8. Don't be afraid to ask questions

9. Don't buy more vehicle than you need or can afford

10. Don't sign anything till you're sure
